Speaking English in Korea is often considered and used as a means to feel superior to others and trample over others. This is a distortion of the truth and a misunderstanding. Thinking that the ability to speak English is a yardstick for worldly boasting is a great example of the “garbage”that the apostle Paul guarded himself from (Philippians 3: 5-8) I wish to start with washing students of this “garbage” and ridding them of this misconception. This is because the fundamental purpose and role of all languages is to connect and restore our brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ who have been separated because of our differences in language. The ultimate goal of my class is to help the students of Handong International School learn English as a means to speak to, listen to, communicate with, and save other people as children of Jesus.
