2023년에 우리는 “사랑과 선행을 격려하자!”는 주제를 중심으로 많은 일들을 했습니다. 특별히 한동의 학생들이 모든 일에 최선을 다하며 이 주제를 실천하려고 노력하는 모습을 보며 교장으로서 참 감사했습니다.

그런데 무엇인가를 열심히 할 때 우리도 모르게 우리의 동기가 사람들의 인정 나아가 하나님의 인정을 획득하려는 것으로 변질될 위험이 있습니다. 이럴 때 다시 우리의 사랑과 선행 전에 하나님의 사랑과 선행이 있다는 사실을 기억해야 합니다. 그리고, 하나님의 사랑과 선하심을 알고 그것을 누릴 때 비로소 우리의 사랑과 선행이 온전해집니다.

요즘 방송 중인 한 음악경연 프로그램에 우리 학교 졸업생이 참가하고 있습니다. 제 귀에는 그 형제님은 일반 노래를 부르면서도 하나님의 사랑을 노래하는 것으로 들립니다. 특별히 한 번은 다음 가사가 제 마음에 다가왔습니다.

언젠가 그대가 날 아무 말 없이 안아 주겠죠 /

그댄 나를 아무 말 없이 안아주겠죠 /

그 품 안에 아주 오래도록

그렇습니다. 우리 하늘 아버지는 이미 우리를 사랑하시고 언젠가 우리가 그 분을 만나는 날 그 큰 품으로 우리 한 사람 한 사람을 안아주실 것입니다. 2024년에도 하늘 아버지의 사랑과 선하심을 기억하고 누리며 맡겨주신 사명을 신실하게 감당하는 한동 가족 되시기 바랍니다.

In 2023, we have done a lot of work centered around the theme “Encourage Love and Good Works!” As a principal, I was especially grateful to see Handong’s students trying their best to put this theme into practice in everything they do.

However, when we work hard at something, there is a risk that our motivation may unknowingly change into seeking the approval of others and even the approval of God. At times like this, we must remember that God’s love and good works come before our love and good works. And, only when we know and enjoy God’s love and goodness can our love and good works become complete.

A graduate of our school is participating in a music competition program that is being broadcast these days. To my ears, it sounds like the brother is singing about God’s love even when he is singing non-Christian songs. One time in particular, the following lyrics touched my heart.

You will hug me without saying anything /

In your arms for a very long time

Yes, our Heavenly Father already loves us, and one day when we meet Him, He will embrace each of us in His big arms. I hope that the Handong family will remember and appreciate Heavenly Father’s love and goodness and faithfully carry out the mission he has entrusted to each of us in 2024.

여러분 안녕하세요! 졸업생 임소율입니다. 저는 오늘 연설을 하기 위해 이 자리에 섰습니다.

먼저 제가 올해 가장 기억에 남는 추억을 하나 소개할게요. 바로 졸업여행입니다! 어제 같았던 작년에는 6학년 언니, 오빠들이 졸업여행을 간다고 해서 부러웠는데, 이제 제가 다녀왔네요! 친구들과 마피아 게임도 하고, 노래도 듣고, 부모님의 편지를 읽고 울기도 했어요. 함께 먹고 자면서 우정이 더 돈독해진 것 같았어요. 또한 졸업여행을 다녀온 후 제가 더 성숙해진 것 같았어요. 졸업여행은 항상 제 마음속에 특별한 자리를 차지할 것입니다.

한동글로벌학교에서의 6년은 제 인생에서 정말 중요한 한 페이지입니다. 저 혼자만의 힘으로 이뤄낸 것이 아니라 고마운 분들이 많이 도와주셨기 때문입니다. 이 자리를 빌려 그분들께 특별히 감사 인사를 드리고 싶습니다.

먼저 열정적으로 가르쳐 주신 선생님들께 감사드립니다. 특히 올해 가르쳐주시고 많은 도움을 주신 6학년 담임 선생님께 감사드리고 싶습니다. 학업적으로도 열심히 가르쳐 주셨을 뿐만 아니라 더 나은 길로 인도해 주시고 좋은 본보기가 되어 이끌어 주신 선생님들께 감사드립니다.

둘째로, 저를 격려해주고 함께 해준 반 친구들에게 감사합니다. 이렇게 좋은 친구들을 만난 것은 정말 큰 축복이었습니다. 함께 성장하고 배우면서 정말 많은 추억을 만들었습니다.

셋째로, 학교 공부를 도와주시고 밤낮으로 기도해주시고 무조건 사랑해주신 부모님께 감사드립니다. 저를 믿어주시고 목표를 이룰 수 있도록 격려해주셔서 감사합니다.

가장 중요하게, 저를 한동글로벌학교로 인도하신 주님께 감사드립니다. 주님께서 올해 뿐 아니라 초등학교 시절 내내 저를 보호해 주셨습니다.

중학교에 갈 생각에 설레요. 새로운 친구들과 선생님들을 만날 날도 기대됩니다. 또한 새로운 것을 배울 수 있을 것 같아 기대가 됩니다!

올해는 정말 멋진 한해였고, 지금까지 저를 도와주시고 이끌어주신 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 이 훌륭한 분들이 아니었다면 제가 이렇게 멋진 학창 시절을 보내지 못했을 것입니다. 정말 감사합니다. 여러분 한 분 한 분과 함께할 수 있어서 정말 즐거웠습니다. 다음 장을 시작하는 저희를 위해 계속 격려해주시고 기도해 주세요!

제 연설을 들어주셔서 감사합니다, 메리 크리스마스!

Good morning everyone! This is Irene Lim from 6th grade class. I am here to give a speech today.

First of all, I would like to share one of my favorite memories I made this year. It is Graduation Trip! Last year, which feels like yesterday, I had been jealous of the 6th graders going on a Graduation Trip. But this year, I was going! My friends and I played Mafia games, listened to songs, and even cried after reading our parents’ letters. It felt like our friendship got stronger as we had meals and slept over together! Also, it felt like I became more mature after the Graduation Trip. It will always hold a special room in my mind.

6 years at Handong International School is a really important page of my life book. It wasn’t done just by me, but a lot of grateful people helped me throughout the years. I want to take this opportunity to give them special thanks.

First, I am grateful for the teachers who have taught me passionately. I’d like to especially thank our 6th grade homeroom teacher, Ms.Lee, for teaching me this year, and helping me improve a lot. Thank you teachers for not only teaching us hard academically, but also for guiding us to the better path and leading us by being a good example.

Second, I appreciate my classmates who have encouraged me and stayed with me. Having these good friends was such a blessing. We made so many memories through growing and learning together.

Third, I want to thank my parents who helped me with my school work, prayed day and night, and loved me unconditionally. Thank you for believing in me and encouraging me to achieve my goal.

Most importantly, I thank the Lord who guided me to HIS. He has protected me throughout 6th grade and elementary years.

I am excited about going up to middle school. I am looking forward to meeting my new friends and teachers. Also, I am expecting to learn new things!

This year was a great year, and I am truly grateful for the people who helped and guided me up to this point. I wouldn’t have had such a great school days without these fantastic people. Thank you so much, it was a pleasure to have each of you in my life. Please continue to encourage and pray for us as we start our next chapter!

2023년 12월 22일은 방학을 맞이하는 학생들이 한 한기를 정리할 뿐 아니라 6학년 학생들이 초등학교 여정에 작별을 고하는 날이었습니다. 졸업식은 학생들의 지난 6년 동안의 성장과 배움을 기뻐하며 하나님께서 베풀어 주신 모든 축복을 되돌아보는 시간이었습니다.

졸업장을 받기 위해 한 계단 올라 선 졸업생 한 명 한 명에게 교사와 학부모, 친구들은 축하의 박수를 보냈습니다. 졸업생 대표로 임소율, 최지유 학생은 마음 담은 연설을 통해 학교 생활 중 가장 좋았던 추억과 인생에서 배운 중요한 교훈을 나누었습니다. 교사와 학부모들은 졸업생들의 신체적, 지적, 영적 성장을 지켜봐 왔기에 제자와 자녀들이 더욱 자랑스러운 순간이었습니다.

졸업생 여러분, 축하합니다! 여러분들의 미래가 우리 마음속에 남긴 추억만큼이나 밝기를 응원합니다. 백하민 교장선생님께서 강조하셨듯, 여러분이 어디에서 무엇을 하든 하나님의 사랑과 선하심을 누리고 전파하는 귀한 삶을 살기를 기도합니다.

December 22, 2023, was not only a day for students to wrap up the last semester for the winter break, but also for 6th graders to bid farewell to their elementary school journey. The graduation ceremony was a time to rejoice in the students’ growth and learning over the past six years, while also reflecting on all the blessings God has given.

As they walked on stage to receive their graduation certificates, teachers, parents, and fellow students showered each graduate with congratulations. Irene Lim and Jiyu Choi as representatives delivered heartfelt speeches, sharing their favorite memories and important life lessons learned throughout their school years. Witnessing the physical, intellectual, and spiritual maturity of each student and children, teachers and parents swelled with pride.

Congratulations, Class of 2023! May your futures be as bright as the memories you leave behind in our hearts. As Dr. Baek emphasized in his message, we pray that you will live precious lives that enjoy and spread the love and goodness of God, no matter where you go or what you do.

“HIStory Night은 처음 경험해보는 행사였어요. 우리 반 친구들이 열심히 준비해서 정말 떨렸어요. 그 과정을 통해 성경을 더 깊이 이해할 수 있었어요.” -편입생 박시우

초등학교는 12월 8일, 한 해를 마무리하며 ‘HIStory Night’을 통해 예수님의 탄생을 함께 축하했습니다. 학생들은 이번 학기 채플 시간에 히브리서 11장의 ‘믿음의 전당’에 대해 배웠으며, 각 학년은 공연에 등장할 인물을 선정했습니다. 노아, 아브라함, 요셉, 모세, 다윗, 여호수아가 등장하는 믿음의 이야기를 촌극, 리본 댄스, 우산 퍼포먼스, 노래, 춤 등을 통해 창의적으로 표현했습니다. 교사들은 학생들이 이 믿음의 선배들과 부모님들의 발자취를 계속 따라갈 수 있기를 간절히 기도합니다.

“It was my first time experiencing HIStory Night. Our class worked hard, and I was really nervous. Through the process, I was able to understand the Bible in depth.” -Siwoo Park(a transfer student)

Elementary hosted HIStory Night on December 8th as a culminating performance for the year, also celebrating the birth of Jesus together. Students have been learning about the “hall of faith” in Hebrews 11 for chapel this semester, and each grade selected a character to represent for the performance. The stories of faith featuring Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David, and Joshua were creatively presented through skits, ribbon dances, rain stick performances, songs, and dances. The teachers earnestly pray that the students will continue to follow in the footsteps of these faithful individuals and their parents.

안녕하세요, 이번 2023 버라이어티쇼 총괄 디렉터를 맡은 유서영 입니다. 모두가 열심히 준비하던 벌티가 드디어 끝이 났습니다! 준비하는 기간에는 모두가 힘들고 지쳐 “언제 끝나지..?” 하면서 막막해했었지만, 막상 끝나고 나니 후련함과 동시에 허전함이 있는 것 같습니다. 이번 벌티의 주제인 “One body in Christ”는 하나님 안에서 한 몸이라는 뜻을 가지고 있습니다. 처음 벌티를 시작하고 리더십끼리 주제를 정할 때 다들 말하던 것은 ‘공동체’와 ‘하나됨’ 이었습니다. 그만큼 저희 학년이 하나가 되는 것이 시급하고, 그렇게 하나가 된 공동체를 체험하고 싶었던 마음이 컸었던 것 같습니다. 저희 학년이 ‘완전한 하나’라고 말하기에는 이르지만 이번 벌티를 통해 하나가 되기 위한 여정에 의미있는 하나의 큰 걸음을 하게 된 것에 감사합니다.

서지훈 선생님께서 ‘우리가 모두 완벽하게 하나가 될 수 없다, 하나가 될 때는 예수님께서 오실 때’라고 말하셨을 때가 기억에 남습니다. 그때부터 좀 더 예수님에 대해 묵상하고 진정한 저희의 주제에 대해 깊이 생각했던 것 같습니다. 벌티를 준비하면서 많은 친구들이 너무 고생하고 힘들어했습니다. 그래도 선생님께서 친구들에게 이것을 통해 많은걸 배울 수 있을 거라고 말씀해 주셨습니다. 한 친구는 ‘이렇게 힘든데 뭘 배울 수 있을까?’ 하며 잠시 의심했지만, ‘지나고 나니 서로 배려하고, 자기 것을 포기하고, 하나가 되어 이해하는 마음을 배울 수 있었다’고 말했습니다. 마지막으로, 준비하느라 고생한 11학년 친구들에게 이 말을 하고 싶습니다. “너희들에게 너무 고맙고, 감동이었어, 11학년들 너무 고생 많았고 사랑해!”

Hello, I’m Seoyoung Yoo, Director of the 2023 Variety Show. Everyone’s been working hard to prepare for the show, and it’s finally over! During the preparation, everyone was exhausted and wondering, “When will it be over?” but when it came to the end, we felt relief and emptiness, simultaneously. The theme of this year, “One body in Christ,” refers to our unity in God. When we first started our leadership meeting to decide on a theme, all brought up “community” and “oneness”. We believed the urgency for my grade to be unified and our desire to experience a unified community was strong. While it’s too early to say that our grade is “fully one,” I’m grateful that the Variety Show is a significant step on our journey to becoming one.

It’s memorable what Ms. Suh said, “We will never all be a perfect oneness, but we can only when Jesus comes.” From then, it was able to meditate on Jesus more and to deeply ponder this year’s theme ‘One body in Christ’. Many of my friends struggled and had a hard time preparing for the Variety Show, but she told them that they would learn a lot from it. One said that she doubted for a moment, “What can I learn from this? “, but was gratified in the end, “Afterwards, we learned to care for each other, to give up our own things, to come together as one and to understand one another.” Lastly, I would like to say to 11th graders who worked so hard to put on the Variety Show, “Thank you so much, our journey was moving. 11th graders, you worked so hard and I love you guys!”

12월 6일, 우리는 ‘그리스도 안에서 한 몸 One Body in Christ’ 이라는 주제로 중학교와 고등학교를 잇는(bridge)는 콘서트를 열었습니다. 마무리를 앞두고 있는 12학년이 새로운 시작과 선택의 갈림길에 놓여있는 9학년 학생들에게 어떤 ‘길’을 보여줄 것인가 고민하며 좋은 다리(bridge)의 역할을 하기 위함이었습니다. 하지만 단순히 중학교와 고등학교를 이어주는 것 뿐만 아니라, 하나님과 우리와의 관계에 대해서도 다리가 되고자 하는 마음으로 준비했습니다.

모든 순서가 끝나고 9학년과 12학년이 다같이 ‘하나님은 너를 지키시는 자’ 축복송을 부르며 서로의 ‘길’을 축복하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 12학년은 9학년을 위해 고등학교 삶을 걸어나갈 ‘길’에서의 지혜를 기도하고, 9학년은 앞으로 세상에서 새로운 ‘길’을 찾아가는 12학년을 응원하고 축복하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 브릿지 콘서트를 통해 함께 사랑하고 섬기며 그리스도 안에서 한 몸이 될 수 있는 기회가 되었음에 감사했습니다.

HIS hosted a Bridge Concert with the theme “One Body in Christ” which bridges MS and HS on December 6. It aimed to serve as a good bridge that the 12th graders, who are finishing up, wanted to show a “path” to the 9th graders who are at the crossroads of choices with new beginnings.Beyond merely connecting MS and HS, this concert was meant to bridge between the relationship with God.

After all the proceedings, there was a special moment of blessing during the final song, “The Lord is your protector,” where both 9th and 12th-grade students sang together, blessing each other’s paths. The 12th graders expressed their wishes for wisdom on the path the 9th graders would tread in their high school life, while the 9th ones offered support and blessings for the 12th ones venturing into new paths in the world. We were happy that the Bridge Concert provided a thankful opportunity to come together, love, and serve one another to become one body in Christ.

저는 오늘 여러분에게 제게 힘이 돼었던 말을 하나 나누고자 합니다. Mono No Aware. Mono No Aware는 인생의 유한한 것들에 대한 애정, 슬픔, 소중함을 말하는 일본의 정서입니다. Ken Liu 작가의 Mono No Aware라는 책의 글귀를 한문장 나누고 싶습니다. “비록 노을은 하루의 끝이지만, 흩어지는 햇빛은 끝없는 아름다움을 지닌다.” 여러분들을 둘러싸는 모든 것들은 유한하고, 유한하기에 아름다운 것입니다. 졸업이 있기에 한동의 생활이 아름답듯이요. 저에게 이 짧은 말은, 사랑하지만 사라질까 두려운 것들을 위해 노력할 수 있는 용기가 되어주었습니다.

Mono No Aware. 지나간 순간들은 저에게 미래만큼이나 소중하기에 지금까지 선생님들과 학부모들에게 감사했던 기억들을 나누고자 합니다. 철없는 경태, 세윤, 욱찬, 저에게 애정어린 눈빛으로 인생의 조언을 해주신 병욱쌤. 9학년들에게 채플에서 영화 한편 틀지도 못하는 모자란 학생회 연호, 다애, 저에게 영화 틀어주시고 김밥 주신 음쌤, 따듯한 홈룸을 만들어주신 주일 쌤, 만날 때마다 환하게 인사해주시고 우울한 하루의 빛이 돼주신 영준쌤, 말 진짜 안듣고 쌤 힘들게만 한 AP 수강생들을 포기하지 않으시고 사랑해주신 수임쌤. 부족한 기타클럽 권준 리더와 저희를 열정으로 대해주신 마크리 쌤, 제가 한동 이전에 상상도 못해본 활동할 기회 주신 파코쌤, 제가 제일 좋아했던 과목을 열정적으로 가르쳐주신 참 선생님 진하쌤, 학생회에 든든한 버팀목이 돼주신 놀쓰쌤, 규칙도 잘 안지키고 쌤 속만 썩힌 기숙사 12학년에게 아버지가 돼주신 도경쌤. 모든 걸 포기하고 싶었을 때 마주치는 족족 걱정하는 한마디 건네주신 영실쌤, 기도회에서 뛰쳐나와서 계단에 앉아서 울었던 저를 일으켜주시고 기도해주신 교장선생님. 그리고 제가 지금 이 자리에서 말하지 못한 모든 선생님분들, 감사합니다. 그리고 저희 가는 길 동안 뒤에서 묵묵히 응원하고 중보해주신 학부모님들 감사드립니다.

이 시간, 제게 소중했던 기억들을 나누고자 합니다. 매일 밤 가던 기도실에서, 어떤 날은 한동에 처음 왔던 기억이 새록새록 떠올라, 3년간 주님의 인도하심에 감사하는 기도를 하게 되었습니다. 12학년 친구들, 한동에 처음 왔던 때를 떠올려주세요. 그리고 겪었던 수많은 경험들을 통해 여러분들이 얼마나 예쁜 사람들로 빚어졌는지 봐주세요. 저의 3년 안에는 화창한 날에 친구들과 자전거를 탔던 기억, 어스름한 시간에 불을 피우고 고구마를 먹은 기억, 살면서 본 노을중 가장 붉은 노을을 소백산에서 내려와 여러분과 함께 봤던 기억, 작년 이맘 때쯤 도서관에서 마음의 상처를 위로받았던 기억, 미처 흘리지 못한 눈물과 표현하지 못한 감사가 담겨 있습니다. 저에게 추억하며 마음껏 눈물 흘릴만한 기억을 만들어주셔서 12학년 한 명 한 명에게 고맙습니다. Mono No Aware. 기억들은 희미해지기에 소중하고, 비록 우리의 그 시절 학창 시절은 추억이라 불리지만, 흩어지는 우리는 모두 노을처럼 아름답습니다.

이 시간, 제가 사랑하는 후배들에게 한마디 당부하고 싶습니다. Mono No Aware. 지나가는 순간을 별빛으로 가득 채워주세요. 별은 자신을 태우며 빛을 냅니다. 시가 시인의 생명을 소모한 결산물이기에 아름답듯 별빛은 별이 자신을 불태우기에 아름다운 것입니다. 후배 여러분, 자신을 태워서 다른 이들을 따뜻하게 하는 일을 망설이지 말아주세요. 별이 뜨겁게 탈수록 밝게 빛나듯, 인생은 여러분이 사랑하는 만큼 아픈 것입니다. 그러나 사랑때문에 부서지는 경험이 여러분을 밤하늘의 별처럼 빛나게 할 것입니다. 한명한명의 작은 별빛이 모여 한동글로벌학교는 겨울 하늘에 수놓은 별자리가 될 것입니다. 누군가는 그 하늘을 보며 꿈을 꾸고, 누군가는 위로를 받지 않겠습니까? 그러니 바보같이 사랑하고, 뒤돌아보지 말아주세요. 깨지고 부서지고 불에 타는 걸 두려워하지 말아주세요. 하나님의 크신 계획에 몸을 던져주세요. 한 때는 나도 누구보다 뜨겁고 아프게 자신을 불태웠다고, 언제는 생명의 열매를 맺는 햇볕이었다고, 어느 누군가의 그림자에 들어선 햇살이었다고 말해주세요. Mono No Aware. 여러분이 죽을 때, 역사상 어떤 별의 죽음보다 영롱한 초신성이 될 수 있도록 작렬하게 불타주세요.

오늘 저희 12학년 49명은 한동글로벌학교를 떠납니다. 그간 떠났던 무수히 많은 학년들처럼. 한동에 처음 왔던 풋풋한 얼굴들보다 성숙하고 든든한 뒷모습이었으면 좋겠네요. 저희 학년과 같은 층에서 생활하며 지냈던 귀여운 7학년, 저 같이 부족한 학생회장에게 큰 위로를 주었던 8학년, 브릿지 콘서트/이어북 촬영 하면서 저희에게 특별해진 9학년, 제일 고맙고 위로가 된 10학년, 너무 미안하고 소중한 11학년. Mono No Aware. 12학년이 떠나갈 때 너희들이 채울 그 빈자리가 우리의 온기로 따뜻하고 포근했으면 좋겠다. 떠나기 전 우리의 부탁은, 자신을 불태워 별처럼 빛나는 사랑을 가진 선배, 후배, 제자, 자녀, 주님의 일꾼이 되어 주어라.

Today I want to share with you a quote that motivated me. Mono No Aware. Mono No Aware is a Japanese idiom for the melancholy and sorrow of the transience of life. I want to share a quote from Ken Liu’s literary work Mono No Aware. “The fading sunlight holds infinite beauty though it is so close to the day’s end.” Everything surrounding you has an end; therefore it is beautiful. Just like how the years in HIS are invaluable because it has graduation. The short idiom gave me the courage to love things, without too much hesitation, that are not infinite.

Mono No Aware. Since moments of the past are as precious as the moments to come, I want to share the grateful memories with teachers and parents. Mr. Byungwook Lee, thank you for caring for Kyungtae, Wookchan, and Seyoon. Thank you, Mrs. Suh, for helping us, student council 12th grade, when we couldn’t turn on a movie for 9th graders, Mr. Juil Lee for providing us a warm homeroom, and Pastor O for lightening up my days by giving me snacks. Thank you, Mrs. Lim, for not giving up on AP students, Mr. Lee for being sincere to us and the guitar club, Mr. Paco for giving me opportunities to do activities that I’ve never imagined I would do, Mr. You for being a passionate teacher of class I loved the most, and Mr. Northe for being a strong pillar in the student council. Thank you, Mr. Dokyung Kim, for being a father to dormitory students, Mrs. Yoon, for all the warm care, when I felt like giving everything up. Thank you Principal Hamin Baek for helping me get up and praying for me when I was crying alone on the stairs. And for all the prayers and worryings that we did not notice, throughout our whole academic years, thank you to our wonderful parents.

I want to share with you memories that I treasure. When I was in the prayer room, one night, memories of when I first came to this school made me thank God for His perfect guidance. Dear 12th graders recall when you first came to the school and look at how all the experiences formed you into a beautiful shape. In my three years, I have a memory of riding a bike on a warm, sunny day; a memory of gathering around a fire to have sweet potatoes during dusk; a memory of watching the reddest sunset after coming down Mt. Sobaek with you; and a memory of deep consolation in the library just about a year ago. Thank you all for giving me memories that I would cry while I recall it. Mono No Aware. Memories are invaluable because they fade over time. Though our school life will now be the past, we hold the beauty of falling sunlight.

Mono No Aware. Please fill your time up with shining dots of starlight. A star radiates light by burning itself. Just as a poem’s awe comes from putting in the poet’s life, a star’s light is beautiful because it burns itself. So, don’t hesitate to radiate warm light to others by burning yourself. The more a star burns, the brighter it is; the more you love your life, the more painful you will be. But, stumbling and breaking down for the things you love will make you shine like a star. And you, as a star, will gather to embed the winter sky with twinkling stars; one may grow a dream while looking at the sky, and one may find peace in their heart. Therefore, love the right things blindly, and don’t look back. Don’t be afraid to fail. Throw yourself into God’s perfect plan. Say that you too once burned like the sun, that you were a light that sheds light to life, and that you lightened one’s shadow with warmth. Mono No Aware. Dream on, that you will be the most beautiful supernova in history.

Today, the 49 students in 12th grade leave HIS, just like all the other grades. Different from our young faces, I hope we look more mature. 7th graders who lived with us in the same dorm, 8th graders who gave me hope during my presidency, 9th graders who became more special than any other during Bridge Concert and Yearbook photoshoots, 10th graders who gave me courage during my presidency, and 11th grade whom I thank the most and am sorry for. Mono No Aware. I hope the void we leave for you to fill will be left with our coziness. I ask you to be a senior, junior, child, and servant of God who shines with a shining light of love.

SKAC STEM Fair 가 12월 1일 대구국제학교(DIS) 에서 진행되었습니다. 학생들은 생명공학, 물리학, 컴퓨터 공학 등 총 8개의 주제로 나뉘어 개성 넘치는 프로젝트를 가지고 결선하였습니다.

본 행사의 목적은 가장 흥미로운 주제와 객관적인 데이터로 높은 완성도를 보여주는 참가자를 선별하는 것 외에도 과학 전문가들과 예비 과학자들의 교류의 장을 마련하는 것이었습니다. 해당 분야의 선배님이신 평가관분들이 후배 과학자들의 실험을 경청하고, 실험의 향후 계획 진심어린 조언을 주시기도 하셨습니다.

저희 “Fishcar” 팀은 횟집에서 밥을 먹다 보인 물고기의 역동적인 움직임이 물속에서 벗어나게 되어도 효과적일지에 대한 궁금증이 생겼고, 결국 ‘물고기의 움직임과 형태가 자동차에 적용이 된다면 공기저항의 감소로 속도가 증가할 것이다’ 라는 가설을 세워 실험을 진행하였습니다. 다양한 실험군들을 비교한 후에 저희의 가설이 타당하다는 결과를 얻게 되었습니다. 하나님의 창조물인 물고기의 형태를 적용한 자동차가 지상에서조차 유용함을 드러내는것을 보며, 만물을 만드신 하나님을 다시 한 번 경외하게 되었습니다. 이번 SKAC 에 참가한 대부분의 한동 학생들이 12학년으로 이루어져 있어 후배들의 프로젝트를 많이 볼수 없어 아쉽기도 했지만 저희가 졸업하고도 한동의 과학을 사랑하는 마음이 계속되길 바랍니다!

The SKAC STEM Fair was held at Daegu International School (DIS) on December 1st. The students got together to perform a unique project based on a total of eight themes, including biotechnology, physics, and computer science. In addition to awarding the participants with the most interesting topics and the highest level of completeness with objective data, the purpose of this event was to provide a platform for interaction between scientific experts and would-be scientists. The evaluators, who are experts in the field, carefully listened to the experiments of the would-be scientists and gave sincere advice on the future plans of the experiments.

Our “Fishcar” team started at a sushi restaurant by questioning whether the dynamic locomotion of fish would be effective even if they escaped from the water. After conducting many experiments, we hypothesized that ‘if we applied the movement and shape of the fish to cars, the speed would increase by reducing air resistance.’ After comparing various experimental groups, we found that our hypothesis had meaningful validity. Seeing that a car applying the form of a fish, the creation of God, showed its usefulness even on the ground, I was once again in awe of the God who created all things. Meanwhile, it was regrettable that the works of HIS juniors could not be seen because most of the participants in SKAC were in 12th grade. I hope that Handong’s love for science will continue even after our graduation!
